Hello and welcome back!

Few days ago, as I scrolled down my YouTube recommendations, I happened to watch a video featuring Erin on The Doctor’s show. If you haven’t heard of her, she is a women who suffers from an addiction to exercise. Yes, exercise! How many times have you and me been told ‘ Exercise! Exercise is the key to fitness’. But what if it was excess?
Erin from San Diego is consumed with exercise and she works out 8 hours a day. She just can’t stop herself from working out. She is now, in tears, seeking medical help to get out of the obsession.
Since then, I have been thinking about how important it is to draw balance in our lives. To know where to go an extra mile and where exactly to pull the brakes. Moderation is the call of anything successful.

People who sail through a smooth life are those who can attract balance to their lives. We need to sense things much before they take the shape of addiction. Once you lose control of anything, it can only bring in harm. Don’t just do things in oblivion. Remain mindful and monitor your actions wisely.
Workaholics! Shopaholics! Gluttons! Game-junkies! Spendthrifts! Slow down! Don’t forget to pull the reins and live a life with quality.
It would be incomplete if I do not mention how the greatest man to have walked on the Earth sought moderation. There could be no better example than Prophet Muhammed (S) who shined in all aspects of his life including worship, family, social, religious and political aspects. Let me substantiate with an incident from his life. Once three men came to his house to inquire about how much worship he performed. When the men were informed of it, they considered their worship to be insufficient and said ,”Where are we in comparison with the Prophet (S) while Allaah has forgiven his past sins and future sins.” One of them said: “As for me, I shall offer prayer all night long.” Another said: “I shall observe fasting continuously and shall not break it.” Another said: ‘I shall abstain from the woman and shall never marry.” The Prophet(S) came to them and said, “Are you the ones who said such things? By Allaah, I fear Allaah more then you do, and I am most obedient and dutiful among you to Him, but still I fast (some days) and I don’t fast (other days), I pray at night and I also sleep (meaning he does not pray all night), and I married, and whoever does not follow my Sunnah (way of life) does not belong to me.”
With regards to eating he said, “The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is enough for the son of Adam to eat a few mouthfuls to keep him going, but if he must (fill his stomach), then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for air.” The saying goes ,’Too much of anything is good for nothing.’ Even devotion. Even food.
President Barack Obama was asked about his approach to balance in life. He says he might have been more successful if he spent more time around politicians, but he would not to chose to do that- because that’s not all that his life demands. He needs to be the dad to his daughters, husband to his wife just as he was being the President to his people. It has always been unusual for entrepreneurs to think this way though.

I want you to pause. Spare a moment to think of all the activities you are into. Are you overdoing any of it? Are your energies spent in the right direction? Or are you not giving something all that it deserves?
Balance. Let it rule your life. A little bit of everything that is good. Or more appropriately, required proportions of all good things. Do not let anything eat you up. Not even your thoughts, friends, food, family, sleep, work or even exercise:/
I’ve learned that it isn’t easy as I thought. I’m never going to see the balance scale of my life stay firm without tipping right or left. Its always going to be a struggle I should engage in. And hopefully, make life worth.

Productivity booster -Tip#1 🏆


Hello and welcome back to my blog!✌🏻

At least for the last couple of years, I’ve noticed myself in a state of quest for more productivity and organisation in my life. And I, by all means, look up to people who are able to schedule their lives and squeeze a 110% from the 24 hours they have at hand. If there’s one thing every human has without any bias, that ought to be TIME. Then, have you ever wondered, how some people get an incredible amount of things done while others just witness time fly by?⏳

Soo…big news folks! This is going to be my first post of my new series on Productivity Boosters. Let’s begin this off with tip no.1 which is
‘ Know where to multi task and single task’.

Few years ago, I remember having read an article that appeared in Readers’ Digest where it said that multitasking is ineffective and slows down productivity. But now, I have mixed thoughts on this subject and have decided to pen on the same.
One crucial tip to make constructive use of your time is to know how to proceed with a task at hand. More clearly, whether to chose multi tasking over single tasking or vice versa. What I have learned over the course of time is that when your task involves a lot of brain activity and cognition, do not give it a second thought, go for single tasking. You cannot be studying for a test and watching a video simultaneously. Or you cannot be at your workplace doing some important accounting while you are on a call or having chatty conversations with a friend. Or even better, you should NOT be texting and driving📵.We may claim to have done stunts like these, but trust me, it brings down the potential results. What is important, is IMPORTANT. They require attention, focus and NO distractions.

But on the other side, I have experimented multi tasking on many occasions. And it has NOT always been a no. When you are not in a hurry, and wish to relax, you could definitely try out some form of multi tasking. This, I feel, could make some terribly boring chores to seem interesting. When you feel the job at hand does not require any conscious thinking and focus but you could still get it done subconsciously, why not get something interesting to fuse with it?
When you’ve got hell loads to write for no other purpose under the sun except completion sake, why not listen to an audio, speech, TEDx talk or maybe even an audiobook? Or maybe when you have to get a handwritten article typed straight on your laptop, why not phone a friend and make such a dull chore seem more engaging?
But again, like researches show, there’s no multitasking in fact. What we are capable of is ‘serial tasking’. Our brain isn’t capable of handling more than one thought at once. So even when we multitask, our brain is switching back and forth between the two. But when the two chores involve 2 entirely different areas of the brain, is where multi tasking seems to work.

The whole idea I am trying to communicate is that, there’s no absolute rule to single/multi task. You’ve got to be the boss to decide which one to head on with. It depends much on the kind of work you have got to accomplish. And no matter what, you grow with every experience, so don’t be afraid to experiment what works best for you!

DIY Storage Box!💛

This time, I have for you ,a step-by-step tutorial on how to make this cute little DIY storage box!
Before I tell you how to ‘build’ one for yourself, let me tell you how it worked for me. Few days ago, I remembered that I had about 4 plastic boxes of dried fruits that I had nicely preserved long ago hoping that I could give it a rebirth in the form of a DIY. I do not know if I should say this, I do not toss anything into the dustbin without giving it a second thought. Who knows? Maybe you could transform into something priceless!
Then, as I rummaged through my ‘junk collection’, my eyes fell upon the little cardboard box in which I had my contact lenses delivered some time ago. I attempted to stuff 3 of those plastic boxes inside this bigger box and ta-daa, it was perfect! That’s how the story unfolds…
So you will need,
📦 empty boxes of chocolates/biscuits (any size, in twos or threes or more(depending on the number of drawers you want ))
🗳 a bigger box that can fit in the smaller boxes you have at hand. You could even cut 5 cardboard sheets and glue their sides and make one to fit in all your drawers.
Cardboard sheet
📿 few beads
✂️ scissors
Scrap paper or white sheets
🎨 paint and brush


1. I took each of the 3 plastic boxes and cut its one side open( the side that should serve to put things in). Do the same with the bigger box- open up one side completely.
2. Now place the small box inside the bigger box and measure the space it takes up horizontally. Cut off the excess.


3. Cut 2 sheets from cardboard or thick paper to serve as a barrier in between the drawers. I cut 2 of them from chocolate boxes. Then I placed all the 3 drawers-to-be boxes and approximated the place where these sheets should be placed, marked them and glued them in.


4. As there was space left on the sides of each drawer, I cut small squares out of the cardboard sheets ,stacked and glued 2 of them and then glued them on to the sides of each drawer on both the sides equally. Ah! Now the drawers are secure.


5. You could choose to paint the whole thing or wrap it completely with a scrap paper or washi tape. I was in the process of experimenting, so I wrapped them completely in white paper and then painted the whole thing yellow! 🙂


6. Glue a button or bead to the centre of each drawer for ease of pulling and pushing it. Add your taste of decorations on it and make it unique.


You could make them in any sizes you wish to depending on the boxes of biscuits you have stored:P

I’ve decided to use this to store my bead head pins, bobby pins, rings and so on. And I loved the way it turned out!💛

So, today, I’ve decided to pen about a ‘before -bed-checklist’!🗒
I don’t exactly remember since when I have fallen into the habit of a bedtime routine ,anyway, it has been a couple of months ,I believe. All my life, I used to be the one who would just crash straight into the bed -whenever I felt like doing so. But, now ,I have realised that incorporating certain routines before bedtime can reward you with a restful and relaxing sleep for the day:)
So here are the to-do’s before you hit your bed:
1. Prep-up for tomorrow!
Take a break, breathe out, relax and jot down anything important you have planned for tomorrow in your planner, whether its a real planner diary or a mobile app. Also, take time to chose your outfit for college or work tomorrow and get them neatly ironed. If you are school-going, then get your books and other stationaries in your bag based on your schedule. Also, set up your alarm!
2. Set your ‘inner clock’ right!🕦
There’s a clock ticking inside each one of us, responsible for much of our hormone secretions ,alertness ,sleep and so on called the ‘Circadian Rhythm’. This is why we tend to feel drowsy or energised around the same times every day. ‘To go to bed early’ is something we’ve heard a zillion times. And it’s no joke. But, the careers we pursue ,in many cases, demand us to stay up during the dark hours. I find it next to impossible most of the time ,being in medschool. Often times, my day seems to start after 9 pm.=D
Even if you can’t be an early bird to bed, You should at least try to hit the bed around the same time everyday. Work on minimising fluctuations in times when it comes to sleeping and waking up- so that your internal body clock tunes to it.
3. Cleanliness first!✨
To sleep with clean teeth is important. Don’t skip brushing before bed. This is important to keep cavities and tooth decay at bay!
Use a cleanser/face wash to wash away all that makeup, dirt & oils on your face after a long day of exposure to the environment -to prevent acne and blemishes.
4. Self-care!🌷
I have heard from skin care specialists that the skin regenerates at night and absorb products better. So if you are really into caring for your skin, moisturise before bed.
Also, if you have long hair, be sure to detangle and put them into a loose braid to avoid hair damage.
5. Refresh!
Use the washroom before you hop into the bed because you do not want to find yourself awake in the middle of your deep sleep for doing so. And if you are a muslim, do not forget to perform the ablution (wudu’) so that doze in a state of purity and earn the rewards.
6. Make-your-bed!🛏
Dust your bed spread by holding one corner of it and make sure its clean. This is again a sunnah of our beloved Prophet (S).
If you are dying to catch a calm and relaxed sleep, maybe you should also try a pillow spray and spruce up your bed.
7. Bedtime-prayers!🙌🏻
Be sure to chant your prayers & forgive everyone before you end your day. For muslims, here’s the list of prayers before sleeping. You cannot afford to miss out this routine.
8. Final-preps!
Change into loose clothes and off the lights. Sleeping in the dark is central for a good sleep because ,your hormone ‘melatonin’ (sleep hormone) is only produced in the dark.
9. Doze-off!💤
The best position to sleep is to sleep on your right side- both according to the sunnah and science. The worst sleeping position is to sleep on your stomach-again, both according the sunnah and science.
It’s upto you to decide how many hours of sleep makes you wake up with energy. There’s no standard duration as such- it depends on your health and lifestyle. You be the boss to decide this!

So, yeah, that’s ALL! I do not claim to be ‘Miss Perfect’ and do ALL of these every single day, instead, I ‘m striving and sticking on to it as much as I possibly can:P
So why don’t you move on, blend, match, add-up and build a bedtime routine for yourSELF?

How-to’s for a good presentation💻

How are y’all doing?
So, this Saturday, my post-lunch session was pathology tutorials on the topic ‘Adenocarcinoma of colon’. It turned out to be presentations by my colleagues rather than a boring 2 hour long lecture. There were about 10 presenters lined up with their presentations in the front rows. At the end, I was surprised ! I hadn’t felt sleepy at all ! Had it been a regular class, I would have been sleeping like a log at the end of the sixth row.
So ,as time went by, I was keenly observing how one presentation was different from another. Each one of them taught me something important . So then I thought, why not pick them all up and turn them into a blog post? So here’s the list!👇🏻
1. Dress up well! Wear something that makes you feel confident and not too self-conscious. Contrary to many other circumstances in life, appearance does matter when you are public speaking.
2. Greet your audience before you begin with the topic. Let it be ‘A very Good Morning/Afternoon to each one of you seated here!’. Don’t forget to smile and make it sound as natural as possible. Also, don’t begin your talk unless the whole crowd becomes silent.
3. Eye contact! Don’t just stare at the wall at the back of the hall or your laptop or just one person in the audience. Look at everyone and make them feel like you are talking to them. One tip that has worked for me with regard to this point is ,if possible, even before you get on stage to present, try to look at everyone from somewhere in the front, before you catch your seat. That way, you know what it is going to feel like and will feel less tensed.
4. Never turn your back against the audience. Except when you have to point something on your slide or write on the board, do NOT stand with your back facing the audience. People tend to doze off or chit chat when they feel that nobody is noticing.
5. Ask questions! Don’t be picky on the audience. Instead, give them the opportunity and let anybody genuinely interested in answering give it a try!
6. Add humour! Just because you are on the stage doesn’t mean you can’t smile or handle a joke or two. Break the ice and attract attention!
7. Don’t read the slides. If it was so, you should have just let the slides play and sat back. You are on stage for a reason. I am not telling you don’t even look at the slides, glance at them, and convey them instead of straight reading. Also, keep the slides short and concise.
8. Explain any hard words! Do not take it for granted that your audience gets what you are speaking. Take the time to convey the meanings and explain the abbreviations.
9. Use boards, body language, slides or anything creative . This is for you to master . Use multiple methods for conveying the ideas because people grasp them in different ways.
10. Limit the number of slides. Nobody would bother to listen to you after their attention span which is just a couple of minutes. Don’t drag, get the ideas straight and right!
11. Use pictures/flowcharts. Instead of a long list of bullet points, put them in pictures if possible. This is far more interesting and useful for long term memory!
12. Ensure the accuracy of your content. You do not want to turn red on stage when your moderator points out a correction you could easily have noticed.
13. Move a little here and there. Let people know that you are comfortable by not just standing glued to just one place. But do not become a distraction by walking the whole time.
14. Pop up questions for which people would love to know the answer. Tickle their brains a little and make them eager to get words out of your mouth.
15. Set the depth right. Depending on the audience you have ,alter the depth of the subject. Do not talk PG level stuff to UGs. No, You do not look smarter that way.
16. Pause at appropriate places. Sometimes, a little silence can help you get back their lost attention.
17. Moderate your pace. Don’t rush through your slides or stay over them for a very long time. Instead ,switch them steadily.
18. Check the time. Don’t cross the time limits and cause yourself the trouble by making the moderator pause you in between and tell you ‘Please make it fast, many more presenters to go’.
19. Allow people to take notes. If you find any one of your audience jotting down something, give them your time.
20. Summarise. Leave the audience an overview of what you have spoken about so that they feel like they have gained something from your talk.
Yeah! I guess that was it! I hope you find these tips useful when you are on stage the next time, because one day or the other ,you will have to! Thanks for reading!☘️

As the month of March begins, I am sharing with you updates about how I maintain my daily planner and how it has all been going for the past 2 months!
So basically, like I said in my previous post on  WHY YOU SHOULD BELIEVE IN ROUTINES? ⏰, I do have a daily planner for the year 2017 where I write down all the important events and to-do’s of every single day. This is how I did it:
When this year was about to begin, I kept looking for planners to buy on different bookstores, online shops etc. But to my disappointment,it was all way too costly for me to afford! So I thought of converting a simple diary into a beautiful daily planner. This diary was from a jewellery shop and it had all their ads over it. So I glittered them all out on the front cover and on the back cover,I stuck a golden sheet of paper and wrote the quote ‘Ask yourself if what you are doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow’ over it. On the outside hard bind , I put a paperclip and hung a pen to it so that I would not have to search for one every now and then.(like in the pic)

Inside ,I did the same and wrote my name ,plus I stuck a half sheet of paper on the inner side of the front cover to serve as a folder for my stickers, notes and so.
On the inner side of the back cover, I stuck sticky notes which I would need during my journaling. The other empty pages ,I stuck coloured pages and wrote down the challenges I had taken up for this year(like the reading challenge).

You could convert any random book into a beautiful planner with a few art supplies. I had done that the previous year. But then ,I learnt that ,using a diary with dates printed on it lets you plan things which are to come days or months later.( like if I have a trip or appointment on the 5th of July, I can flip over to that page and mark it there). And I have a full one page in my diary for every single day except Sundays.

Now ,lets get to the planning part.
I write down every single thing I have got to do on my planner the night before (before I hit my bed). No matter how small it is ,if I cannot afford to have it not done, it goes into my planner.
Even though there is a time schedule at the side bar, I do not bother to use it,because my to-do’s as a medical student are in most of the cases, not time based but a matter of do-it-or-not. It depends on who you are and what your priorities are as to what all you should make use of in your planner.
Things that go into each page of my day:-
1. to-do list [ this includes my routines (like make class notes, reading , morning and evening prayers etc),anything new ,home works ,assignments, reminders(to give laundry) etc]

[P.S. I have blurred out some of my writings because I feel it is too personal]🙂


2. Cash memo [ on the far right side of each page, I write down the money I owe someone or the amt of money I had lend. And get them checked when it’s settled.
3. Water tracker. [At the end of the page ,I sketch water bottles to track down the amount of water I am drinking each day.
4. Doodles [ Anything relevant to a day goes as a doodle on that page(like If i had an exam, went out,what my mood was like..) I doodle all of these with my sketch pens.


5. In one of the blank pages at the beginning of the diary ,I have 2 post-its, one for the books I wish to read this year and one for the things I need to purchase this year.


6. I also draw a small icon like this 📰 at the very end of the page if I have read the news on that day.
7. Remember that sticky notes at the back of my planner I told you about? Yeah ..I paste them on some pages and write some tips ,advices I feel I need,marks from the sessional exams that just got over and things like that ! Like the last time I was appearing for the internal exams and felt completely drained of any motivation I did some doodles on the page I was on and yeah..I felt inspired after that😌( I know..wierd me)

8. I also have a post-it where I write down any ideas for my blog posts. And there’s a mini calender in the beginning of the diary that I use to mark the days on which I should be posting something new on my blog.


Also ,when there is something very important I need to do before I head to or while at college ,I write them in bold letters on non sticky notes and leave them on my bedside table so that that’s the first thing I see on waking up. And waking up to a purpose ,adds meaning to life!

So ,that is all about my planner I am currently using. And I’m quite happy with it.❤ This is my way of getting myself to get things DONE.
